Self Made and welcome addition to my set.
This coin is one small step in turning my Clad Roosevelts into more of a self made labor of love. I find enjoyment in buying raw coins, self grading them and then reaping the rewards of my labor when NGC confirms their grade.
This coin is a fantastic example of an early die strike Roosevelt. It exhibits wonderful luster, a frosty almost cameo look to the reverse and a deep full strike.
The 1970s issues are quite hard to find in full strike and are relatively lower in quality than there newer counterparts. While not the rarest of the 1970s FT coins it is still relatively rare in 67 and above grades. The total population at NGC for 1971 D Roosevelt dimes in FT and Non-FT status is 111 coins - just 19% have attained 67 or higher status and only 13.5% have attained 67 FT or higher status.
In total just 13 coins have been certified as MS 67 FT and a mere 2 coins are better in MS 68 FT. This coin replaces an MS 67 FT coin in my set - but that was a purchased coin and this one is self made - making it special and a keeper! The other one is currently listed on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/320852907316?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649.
The origin of this coin was an original 1971 US Mint Set bought in 2011 as a roll of dimes in mint cello.
