The Eagle has finally landed...

It has been a long time coming but I finally added an example of the small flying eagle 1 cent 1858 transitional design. I first became aware of the pattern in 1993 from Rick Snow's Flying Eagle and Indian Cent research masterpiece. There are 3 main patterns of the small eagle to collect ( some critics of the design say it looks more like a quail, or even a "sick" eagle falling from the sky). This one is Judd 204, with a "harp" or Ornamented shield combined with oak wreath reverse. Anyway it is a highly collected Pattern with Rarity 5 per Pollock, i.e. 31-75 pieces extant. This speciman is a CAC , Eagle Eye certified MS-63 from PCGS. Cheers !
