NGC Star Designation to Include Silver Dollars

Both Morgan and Peace Types Eligible

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation has expanded its application of the star designation to Morgan and Peace Dollars displaying exceptional eye appeal.

This coveted designation is unique to NGC and identifies coins that are superior in appearance to more typical coins of the same grade.

This extension of the star designation was prompted by the popularity of its inclusion on a number of the Binion silver dollars. NGC was the exclusive grading service to certify the huge collection of Morgan and Peace Dollars from the estate of the late Ted Binion. The outstanding quality of many of these coins prompted NGC to apply the star designation previously limited to other series of modern coins. Features that earned the star designation for these coins include superb luster and/or beautiful toning.

NGC’s star designation will be applied to qualifying coins by NGC in its normal course of grading uncertified or “raw” Morgan and Peace Dollars. No additional fee is required to receive the star.

Coins already certified by NGC may be resubmitted for the star designation under the company’s Designation Review service, the fee for which is $10.

Other coin types eligible for star designation are: Jefferson Nickels, Roosevelt Dimes, Washington Quarters, Franklin Half Dollars, Kennedy Half Dollars, Eisenhower Dollars and Anthony Dollars.

Also eligible for star designation are proof coins from 1936 to 1978.
