The American Numismatic Association (ANA) has contracted
with Numismatic Conservation Services (NCS), LLC to
be the conservation service of choice for the Association.
Until recently, limited conservation services-designed
to protect the long-term integrity of coins and medals-were
offered by the ANA Authentication Bureau to Association
members, the public and other museums.
"We are pleased to offer this new affiliation
to the ANA membership," says ANA President John
W. Wilson. "Naming NCS as our official conservation
service allows ANA members to have their coins professionally
conserved and hopefully will lessen the number of coins
seen in the marketplace that have been damaged by amateur
conservation and cleaning."
Says David J. Camire, NCS director of operations, "We
are extremely pleased to be working with the ANA. While
we currently have a very strong dealer network, our
affiliation with the ANA will now enable us to reach
out to collectors."
NCS is the only professional service of its kind dedicated
to conserving numismatic material, according to Camire.
Staffed by professional numismatists with decades of
experience, NCS conservators can provide a level of
treatment that is unparalleled by non conservators inexperienced
in numismatics.
Brian Silliman, former ANA conservator and now assistant
director of operations and a conservator at NCS, says,
"NCS has taken the ANA's modest start in conservation
and developed a state-of-the-art facility in Florida
to not only handle the incredible volume of submissions
but also research and develop new techniques.
"For far too long, great coins have been ruined
by amateur conservation and improper cleaning,"
Silliman adds. "NCS provides collectors with a
safe and legitimate means of having adverse surface
conditions removed from their coins while improving
eye appeal and salability."
NCS accepts all raw and certified coins, tokens and
medals for conservation, and does not do repairs or
mechanical alterations of any kind.
