Set Description
The Arlington Collection is a private coin collection that consists mostly of Type 1 Double Eagles. When I started the collection, my goal was to stick to a range of XF40 through AU58, knowing the 1854-O and 1856-O were forever out of my reach.

But then the shipwrecks came along, especially the SS Republic. Mint state coins became available like never before. So the boundaries of the collection were changed to AU50 through MS65. Over half of the collection now consists of shipwreck coins. The rarity ratings you see in my descriptions of each coin are my own after factoring in the coins from the SS Republic. Although many of the type 1 double eagles are hard to find with clean surfaces, you will not find any heavily abraded or deep contact marks on the coins in this collection. All the coins have great eye appeal even if they are graded as low as AU50.

But, I am not like Harry Bass Jr., or Louis Eliasberg Sr. I have limited resources and work at a normal job not unlike John Jay Pittmann. The 1954 King Farouk Auction was to Mr. Pittmann what the SS Republic is to me.

I am not a CEO, doctor, lawyer, or coin dealer. I am Jack Ackerman.
